Lynn's Story

Lynn Weiner was one of the founding board members of Marcia Courage and a person whose compassion, energy, and commitment to helping others helped shape the organization from its earliest days.

Lynn believed deeply in being there for people when they needed it most. Throughout her life, she found many ways to serve others, from volunteering with hospice and donating blood to supporting causes close to her heart. When she joined the founding board of Marcia Courage, she brought that same generosity and sense of purpose to the organization’s mission of providing comfort and support to cancer patients.

Lynn was a remarkable combination of warmth, determination, curiosity, and vitality. Born and raised in Bethesda and Cheverly, Maryland, she earned a degree in Business Administration from Towson University, where she was a cheerleader, participated in intramural sports, and was crowned homecoming queen. She carried her love of an active life and her enthusiasm for learning throughout adulthood, even running a marathon at age 45 and earning her CPA designation in 2010.

Professionally, Lynn built an accomplished career in healthcare technology with Aetna, Pfizer, Novant, and Inova. But her greatest source of pride was her family and the people she could help along the way. She was a devoted wife and caring mother who encouraged her children to pursue their interests, and famously took an online Spanish class herself when they needed help with their schoolwork.

Lynn’s commitment to helping others became even more meaningful during her own battle with a rare and aggressive lung cancer. Despite facing an extraordinarily difficult journey, she continued to think beyond herself. She participated in a clinical trial, finding comfort in knowing that her experience might help researchers learn more and ultimately help other cancer patients.

That spirit captures who Lynn was: even when she was the one in need of support, she was still thinking about how she could support someone else.

Lynn found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a long walk on the beach, a sunny afternoon on the porch, the sound of wind chimes in the breeze, and a good nap snuggled up with a dog. She brought that same appreciation, kindness, and joy to the people around her.

Lynn passed away on January 7, 2025, at the age of 65. Her influence on Marcia Courage extends far beyond the years she served on its board. As a founding board member, she helped establish the values of compassion, dignity, and personal connection that remain central to the organization today.

In honor of her foundational contributions and enduring commitment to others, Lynn Weiner is proudly recognized as a Board Member Emeritus of Marcia Courage.

Her legacy lives on in every cancer patient who receives a little more comfort, a little more encouragement, and the reminder that someone cares.
